Love turbans? They are great to pull out and wear this holiday season — not only glamorous, but who needs to worry about “hat hair” in cold weather when your turban stays on at the party? Right now, there’s a sale on Norma Kamali turbans: Buy one at $65, or get two for $115.

Of course, I’m partial to the gold lamé? How about you?

Few things say “vintage glamour” the way turbans do.

We don’t see turbans often today, which is rather surprising because they are practical — especially in winter and on bad hair days. Look how cute Solanah is in her pink velvet turban!

If you’re feeling more Hedy Lamarr, how about the Angel Bias Swim Gown with caplet? Printed washable chiffon so pretty you can wear it out on the town (or, as Norma says, as lingerie!)

Not that you must have a swimsuit cover up. If you buy the right swimwear style to suit you…

Norma Kamali also offers a unique Try Before You Buy Service, in which you, with the help of a Personal Shopper, can select styles and sizes you like on the website, have them overnighted to your house where you have 48 hours to decide if the fashions fit & flatter you — as well as work with your wardrobe as you intended.

The ability to try on swimsuits without the ugly harsh florescent store lighting (which turns nearly every skin a pasty-ashen-greenish-bile color) should not be underestimated.

What’s New In Vintage? Vintage Roadshow (And Tell!)

Another Vintage Roadshow, where you travel to near & far blogs to see what’s new in vintage:

Glamoursplash poses a quiz on starlets from the 1920’s & 1930’s, Who’s That Girl?

Here’s Looking Like You, Kid explains why there is so much peach, pink & ivory lingerie from the 1920’s & 1930’s.

The Vintage Traveler thinks about economizing.

Freudian Slips Vintage shares some sentimental vintage shoe finds.

Glamoursplash looks at the vintage Turban as seen in Vogue 1953.

Also, I’d like to thank Collectors’ Quest columnist Deanna (of Twolia’s own Kitsch Slapped) not only for including a link to me in her post on living with your collectibles, but for pointing me to “Purse Week” at Collectors’ Quest. (“Purse Week” was last week, I guess, but what a wonderful collection of vintage purses!) That’s where I found this lovely pink beaded 1960’s handbag.

Hats Off To Greta Garbo!

By , 12 March, 2009, No Comment

A pictorial salute to the many hats of the legendary & beautiful Greta Garbo.

This photo is of Garbo in The Painted Veil, where she trades the sophisticated turban of a bored & cheating wife for better habits – if not a literal nun’s habit and veil.

Garbo as Anna Christie in a (probably not raspberry!) beret. (For some reason, I always look like a frumpy, sloppy mess in a beret. *sigh*)

Garbo sure looks like she has a “cloche” relationship with her mom. *wink*

This photo of Greta on a yacht could be from The Single Standard

The Single Standard is one Garbo film I’ve yet to see, but considered by many to be one of her best films. I’m guessing the reason the film is only available on VHS (and pricey too yet) is because too many folks don’t like the silent films. But I adore them and was hoping the film would be in a Garbo Signature Collection, or TCM’s The Garbo Silents Collection. I continue to hope that TCM or someone puts out a DVD of The Single Standard soon… That would be something to take your hat off for. *wink*
